This is a recording Jingjing made when she attended an event in Los Angeles in October 2018 called SlutWalk.
Slut Walk is a movement calling for an end to rape culture, including victim blaming and slut shaming of sexual assault victims.
She interviewed a sex worker who attends SlutWalk every year calling on people to respect women for who they are, not their profession or how they dress.
Slut-shaming is deeply rooted in Chinese culture. When China’s #MeToo movement was at its peak last year, there were several high-profile cases (including one involving an influential author, Zhang Wen) that forced everyone to take a long, hard look at the culture of shaming women.
Today, with Chinese women, and men, becoming increasingly woke on the issue of gender quality, this is a conversation worth continuing to have.
